A Frail Becoming is the title of the fourth full-length album by Daylight Dies. It was released by Candlelight Records on October 9, 2012, four years after the release of the band's last album Lost to the Living. Drummer Jesse Haff stated in an interview: The recording of A Frail Becoming commenced late 2011. Bassist/vocalist Egan O'Rourke coordinated capturing individual performances of Haff, guitarists Barre Gambling and Charley Shackelford, and vocalist Nathan Ellis.

A Frail Becoming is the fourth album full of gloom and despair from these North Carolina masters of melancholy. Throughout their career, elements of October Tide, Katatonia and Insomnium found their way into the mix. All can still be found on A Frail Becoming, but the sound here is much more clearly a mix of Ghost Brigade and Rapture, with a healthy dose of post-rock style and sensibility.

Now we have A Frail Becoming, the group’s fourth LP to date. Daylight Dies have added a new emotion to their palette of despair and misery, a sense of angst that gnashes at you with a wolve’s fangs. This is a quality not so much heard in the music, as it is felt (although I would say this album is noticeably more aggressive and angrier than their previous efforts), though the band still maintain their lumbering doom cadence. The album is definitely a high point of the year. While established bands who’ve followed in their footsteps such as In Mourning and newcomers such as Okera have provided.

Daylight Dies embarked on numerous tours in support of 'No Reply' upon its release. Touring Europe with Katatonia and the . and Canada with Lacuna Coil - as well as numerous high profile festivals and one offs - the band proved they are an energetic live act and a force to be reckoned with in the international metal movement. Following touring for 'No Reply', Daylight Dies replaced vocalist Guthrie Iddings with Nathan Ellis. Charley Shackelford also joined as a full-time second guitarist. The band entered the studio to record their fourth full-length album, 'A Frail Becoming' in 2012. Once again, the album was mixed and mastered in Sweden by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. Yielding nearly fifty minutes of the band's tumultuous doom/death metal, as always flooded with as much emotion as aggression, 'A Frail Becoming' is the band’s most accomplished work to date.
