Troubadour is a 1976 album by J. J. Cale, his fourth since his debut in 1972. Eric Clapton covered the song "Cocaine" on his 1977 album Slowhand, turning it into one of his biggest hits. Troubadour was produced by Audie Ashworth, who produced Cale's first three studio albums.

Cale's albums are so steeped in his introspective style that they become interchangeable. If you like one of them, chances are you'll want to have them all. This one is notable for introducing "Cocaine," which Eric Clapton covered on his Slowhand album a year later.

Widely hailed as the best album of Cale’s Seventies heyday (if not his career), Troubadour is a consummation of its author’s brand of hazy hypnosis. Each song deals with sex or seduction, each burning slow on blue flame heat. Hey Baby - with its low-key merger of horns, pedal steel, and shuffling drums - is a sly invitation to the album’s charms, as Cale quietly calls Hey baby, you're looking real good. Later, things become more explicit

Travelin' Light" was also recorded by Widespread Panic for their album Space Wrangler in 1988. Producer Audie Ashworth introduced some different instruments for a slightly altered sound on Troubadour. But the album still bears the typical introspective .
