Volume 1 is the debut studio album by American alternative rock band CKY. Recorded at The Ground Hog Studios in Holland, Pennsylvania, it was produced, engineered and mixed by guitarist Chad I Ginsburg, and originally released on February 27, 1999 by Distant Recordings and Teil Martin International. Since its initial release under the title Camp Kill Yourself, the album has been reissued a number of times by various record labels with different titles and album covers.

In the past he has garnered attention for his video game themed music, but here he has dropped those guises, leaving only the similarity of a storyline to bring things together. It might not be the most captivating story, but it’s refreshing in its straightforward honesty. His execution of this story doesn’t hurt either. The short 10-track listen (one extra remix) is backed by in-house production from Random, proving he’s equally talented on the mic as he is behind the boards. From the bouncing double-time flow on Wake Up! to the blissful throwback vibes of The Constant there is no shortage of creative ideas. There aren’t any true standouts, but similarly no serious missteps to drag things down.

I guess it's really no surprise-they just seem to GET IT better when they have a means of visually organizing their thoughts. When they can analyze what they have read, when they can plan a writing project, or when they can collaborate with others in pictorial form, the "lights" in their heads just seem to burn more brightly.
