Der Fremde - Der Fremde flac album

Die Heimkehr aus der Fremde (German, Return of the stranger), known in English as Son and Stranger or Return of the Roamer, is a one-act Singspiel written by Felix Mendelssohn in 1829 to a German libretto by the composer's friend Karl Klingemann, a poet who would later provide the text for the oratorio Elijah.

Berlin Classic's release In der Fremde, of Peter Schreier singing selected Schumann songs, is a reissue of recordings made between 1972 and 1974. Although his voice is not an especially sensuous instrument, Schreier is a consummate musician and, for the most part, the sensitivity, intelligence, and deep feeling of his singing compensate for his lack of vocal glamour.

In der Fremde (1840) O. 9 n. Part of a series or song cycle: Liederkreis (O. 9). Works such as Kinderszenen, Album für die Jugend, Blumenstück, the Sonatas and Albumblätter are among his most famous. His writings about music appeared mostly in the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik (New Journal for Music), a Leipzig-based publication which he jointly founded. In 1840, Schumann married Friedrich Wieck's daughter Clara, against the wishes of her father, following a long and acrimonious legal battle, which found in favor of Clara and Robert.
