Connie Crothers' debut as a leader finds her playing four fairly free piano solos and performing six tunes in a trio with bassist Joe Solomon and drummer Roger Mancuso. It is ironic that Lennie Tristano is quoted in the liner notes as calling Crothers the most original musician he has worked with for at this early point; Crothers sounded like a close relative of Tristano's.

Perception is the debut album by pianist Connie Crothers recorded in 1974 and released on the Danish label, SteepleChase.

Connie Crothers (May 2, 1941 – August 13, 2016) was an American jazz pianist. Crothers began studying classical piano at age 9 and went on to major in composition at the University of California, Berkeley.

Crothers recorded SWISH, a duo album with drummer Max Roach, in 1982, and toured with him in Europe, Asia and the US. Their collaboration was honored by Harvard University, which named them Visiting Jazz Artists, and inspired a composition by Anthony Braxton. The Crothers/Roach duo also appeared with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. In the ’80s and ’90s, the pianist worked as a soloist and in groups that at various times included Lenny Popkin, alto saxophonist Richard Tabnik, tenor saxophonist Charlie Krachy, bassist Cameron Brown, and drummer Carol.
