The album was released by Motown Records on April 12, 1971 and peaked on the Billboard Pop Albums at and on the Billboard R&B Albums Chart at All nine songs were written by Wonder and Motown singer-songwriter Syreeta Wright, his first wife. It was the last album produced under his first contract with Motown Records. Including live albums, this is Stevie Wonder's fifteenth album overall, and thirteenth studio album.

The album spawned six singles, four of which charted exceptionally well internationally. The album's eponymous lead single became his fourth top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The singles "So Good", "Both of Us" and "Out of My Mind", followed behind, with the former two being certified platinum by the RIAA. The album itself debuted at number five on the Billboard 200. Liner notes are informative and written by Rick Conrad. Stand out tracks for me are the Prince Phillip Mitchell track Make it Good from his debut album in 1978. The Staple singers should need no introduction and their contribution is Love Me Love Me Love Me written and produced by Curtis Mayfield with a full band no drum machines here. Aretha's IT only happens when I look at you again full studio band pure magic. The funkiest track has to be Side Effects Georgy Porgy which has a thumping bass throughout the song and vocals by Miki Howard a real bit of get down boogie and slice of funk
