Tug of War is the third solo studio album by Paul McCartney, discounting the seven studio albums with Wings, released in April 1982. It was McCartney's first album released after the dissolution of Wings in April 1981. The album was produced by former Beatles producer George Martin and was a number in numerous countries. Following the release of the solo album McCartney II, Wings regrouped in July and October 1980 to rehearse several songs which later appeared on Tug of War and Pipes of Peace

Tug of War was the album that would redeem his career. And it did more than that. Thirty-five years later, it is still critically acclaimed as one of his best amongst his discography. Tug of War is a mix of so many different sounds, but the uniqueness of each song amazingly gels nicely together into a cohesive masterpiece. While considered a solo album of sorts, the help that he receives on this project makes it seem like a movie with multiple producers and writers taking their turn on each song
