This year, solutions for seating, signage, storage, and more will appear on the plazas - including new designs, designs that have been altered from their appearance last year, and even one restored design first created in 1966. Joe Doucet's second seating concept for Times Square, Rely Bench, was manufactured with HyCoEx, a novel and fully digital production method, out of concrete with the help of Urbastyle. Appearing as a loosely-connected seating system, it serves a dual purpose as an aesthetically appealing traffic barrier.

Album releases came thick and fast in those days. The Michigan rock trio had, for example, only issued their sophomore set, Grand Funk, on New Year’s Day 1970. It had reached its No. 11 peak only in March. That in itself was a substantial improvement on the No. 27 peak of their 1969 debut set On Time. But now it was time to take things up another notch, both in record sales and in the way the band were marketed.

Times Square was directed by Allan Moyle from a script written by Jacob Brackman, based on a story by Moyle and Leanne Ungar. The movie was inspired by a diary, found in a second-hand couch bought by Moyle, detailing the life on the streets of a young mentally disturbed woman. Welsh rock group Manic Street Preachers covered the Times Square song "Damn Dog" on their debut album Generation Terrorists (1992) and quoted dialogue from the film in the album liner notes ("Damn Dog" was, however, excluded from the American release of the album). The Manics also named their song "Roses in the Hospital" (from their second album, 1993's Gold Against the Soul) after Pamela's line, "What about the roses in the hospital?" (alluding to the scene in which Nicky eats roses to distract Pamela from the doctors and her father).
