Gods of the Earth was the band's second album, released on April 1, 2008. In support of the album, the band completed the Gods of the Earth Tour supported by artists such. Five shows into the opening North American leg of the Warp Riders Tour, The Sword was forced to postpone all dates due to the departure of drummer Trivett Wingo.

This is an alright album by The Sword. It isn't anything spectacular or stunning, but it's still a good album worth listening to at least once. Their sophomore effort, Gods of the Earth, continues this, but the sound engineering was a bit disappointing. Guitars were less distinct - a fuzzier sound, and it was like they went out of the way to muffle the vocals.

Gods of the Earth clocks in at a very respectable 48 minutes and this will fly by before you know what hit you. It makes for addictive listening and my finger was straight on the replay button, I find it’s a good album to have on in the background whilst with your drinking buddies. Even some of my non metalhead friends tolerate it much to my surprise. Also check out ‘The white sea’ a seven and a half minute instrumental something which The Sword do very well, I’m pleased they had even more on the following album. If you’re wondering if this album is worth your time and money then it certainly is if you like classic style metal with some doom influences and hard hitting riffs that work brilliantly with the vocals.

And The Sword are a band worth paying attention to. On their 2008 release, Gods of the Earth, the first noticable difference is the lack of a gut shattering low end in the production. Instead of riding the low-end train to loosened bowls and jaws agape, the band toned down their production and opted for a more live sound. What this allows them to do is place more intricate thrash riffing throughout the album with little muddy backwash coming out the speakers.
