The Anthology of American Folk Music is a six-album compilation released in 1952 by Folkways Records (catalogue FP 251, FP 252, and FP 253), comprising eighty-four American folk, blues and country music recordings that were originally issued from 1927 to 1932. Experimental film maker Harry Smith compiled the music from his personal collection of 78 rpm records. The album is famous due to its role as a touchstone for the American folk music revival in the 1950s and 1960s

Artist: Various Album: Talking with the Blues - An Anthology Of Contemporary Blues Songs Fron The USA Genre: Blues Label: Taxim Records Released: 1992-2006 Quality: mp3, 256 kbps. The concept of TALKING WITH THE BLUES is based on a view of the various US states as blues regions. Even casual blues listeners are familiar with the fact that there is Chicago Blues or Mississippi Blues and the gripping social history of the music is very much marked by its geography. But there is much more that just those two places and to this day blues music stays committed to local styles. The infrastructure of the blues scene is not based upon the music industry's PR efforts but kept alive by the inherent qualities of the music and the profound dedication of blues lovers all over the country. Good blues does not have an expiration date. Blues is soulful, emotional, direct and intense.

This Is The Blues, a new series of CDs from Eagle Rock Entertainment, has a title that I found slightly misleading. Not that the music can’t be considered blues. It most certainly is that. That’s definitely the blues and describes the biggest chunk of the first two volumes in what will become a four-volume set. For some reason I was expecting a more comprehensive overview of the genre. Maybe I misunderstood. This Is The Blues would ideally, correct me if I’m wrong, feature the legends of the genre. Performances by Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Bessie Smith, Son Hous. ouldn’t they be essential to any comprehensive overview? Not to mention Blind Lemon Jefferson, Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller, Blind Joe Reynolds & Blind Willie Johnson. Now that’s the blues - am I wrong?.

The Blues "White Album". This blues tribute to one of the Beatles's most important recordings has little to commend. The one truly outstanding cut is Joe Louis Walker's slow, soulful squeeze through "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," where his voice and lead guitar cry and moan, bringing the song's deep currents of pain to the surface. T-Bone Wolk and Anders Osborne stick to the original arrangements of "Don't Pass Me By" and "Happiness Is a Warm Gun," coming up with suitably amiable and dark results, respectively
