Wire Train was an American, San Francisco-based alternative rock band, who released six albums in the 1980s and 1990s. The band was originally formed as the Renegades in April 1983 in San Francisco; its members had met while attending San Francisco State University. The original lineup featured Kevin Hunter (vocals, guitar), Kurt Herr (vocals, guitar), Anders Rundblad (bass guitar, vocals) and Federico Gil-Sola (drums). Rundblad had previously played with the Swedish bands Motvind and Gary T'To Band.

In a Chamber is the first studio album by the rock band Wire Train. It was released in 1983 on Columbia Records. The album contains the band's first single, "Chamber of Hellos". The San Francisco group Wire Train made a big splash with their first album, 1983's In a Chamber. The quartet played a layered, mysterious kind of guitar rock that drew from post-punk's energy, the trippiness of psychedelia, and the solid songcraft of bands from the Byrds to the Flamin' Groovies. There were a few other bands around making similar sounds - the Church, to name the most obvious - but there weren't any bands this hooky or immediate. The album unspools like a greatest hits collection, as one great song follows another.

The 1983 debut album by San Francisco new-wave rockers Wire Train - which spawned the singles Chamber of Hellos, I’ll Do You and Never - will be reissued on CD this week, expanded with six bonus tracks including B-sides, remixes and a cover of Neil Young’s Mr. Soul.
