Alice in the Cities (German: Alice in den Städten) is a 1974 German road movie directed by Wim Wenders. It is the first part of Wenders' "Road Movie trilogy", also which includes The Wrong Move (1975) and Kings of the Road (1976). The film is shot in black and white by Robby Müller with several long scenes without dialogue. The film's theme foreshadows Wenders' later film Paris, Texas.

Alice in the Cities is all about enjoyment and he natural flow of music and doesn't need a overproduced product to show it. Furthermore there's the Ennio Morricone-like cinematic feel to the music, as if it were made to be on a Western soundtrack. To conclude I can only recommend going over to their bandcamp and download this beautiful . I'm sure it will brighten your day or at least make you feel a little happier. In this household it works every single time and we're all looking forward to getting our hands on the debut album that should emerge in the near future.

Title: Alice in the Cities (1974). Wim Wenders talks with Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto about the creative process and ponders the relationship between cities, identity and the cinema in the digital age. Director: Wim Wenders.

Alice in the Cities: German journalist Philip Winter has a case of writers block when trying to write an article about the United States. He decides to return to Germany, and while trying to book a flight, encounters a German woman and her nine year old daughter Alice doing the same. The three become friends (almost out of necessity) and while the mother asks Winter to mind Alice temporarily, it quickly becomes apparent that Alice will be his responsibility for longer than he expected

Something in America has defeated him as a writer and all he can do is take numb, alienated photos with a prototype Polaroid camera. It is only on deciding to return to Europe that he finds he can write again, and he intends to return in the company of a young woman and her small daughter Alice who he's simply picked up at the airport. But enigmatically, the woman disappears just before departure and leaves Philip in charge of Alice on the plane, with a plea that the pair should meet up with her in Amsterdam. In 2007, when the danger to children is so paramount in culture, all this seems.

ALICE IN THE CITIES They never really show what it was you saw. Blowing away everything you can't stand. Talking to yourself - that's actually more like listening than speaking. l've never heard the ending. l'm not finished yet. l took lots of photos and notes, l have enough material. The reason l took so many photos is part of the story. l can't explain it right now. Tell that to the publisher. You missed the deadline as far as l'm concerned. l'll finish the story in Germany. l'm flying there today. Do you have money for a ticket? Just enough for one ticket. But maybe you could give me an advance anyway. My dear friend, you'll get sweet nothing. And take your picture postcards. l'll tell the publisher you'll be in Munich, and then l'm through with it. Because of the strike.

It was also his first film to be short partly in the US and the first to feature his alter ego, Phillip Winter. In 1974 it won the German Critics Prize. Wim Wenders (b. 1945) came to international prominence as one of the pioneers of the New German Cinema during the 1970’s and is considered to be one of the most important figures in contemporary German film.

Talk about Alice In The Cities - Alice In The Cities

Elastic Skunk
Recently I heard that Berlin based band Alice in the Cities will be starting the recordings for their debut album early next year and we also heard they will be playing at a well known festival in East-Flanders in May, along with one of our other favourite new discoveries, Cecilia::Eyes. The first time I saw Alice in the Cities was at Incubate but unfortunately their debut CDR's were sold out by the time I got to the merch table. Yep, they're that good. The second time, in Kievitsnest (Antwerp) I finally had the opportunity to get my hands of one of those disks. The e.p. constists of five tracks, each named after a city. Most of them, except 'Moscow', are beautiful stripped down post-rock songs, sounding clean and joyful. 'Moscow' is a surf-rock track that somehow surprises the listener. It sounds very happy but a little out of place between the others. The sound itself is not perfect, probably because it was recorded live in the rehearsing room, but the hint of distance in the sound makes the whole a pretty interesting voyage. The most striking observation is maybe the fact that anyone with a little experience in playing an instrument can make this music. It doesn't sound very difficult to play. Yet, the chemistry between the band members makes it sound so natural and blissful that you have to feel good and a smile has to appear on your face. Alice in the Cities is all about enjoyment and he natural flow of music and doesn't need a overproduced product to show it. Furthermore there's the Ennio Morricone-like cinematic feel to the music, as if it were made to be on a Western soundtrack. To conclude I can only recommend going over to their bandcamp and download this beautiful e.p. I'm sure it will brighten your day or at least make you feel a little happier.
