Velvet Crush is an American power pop band from Providence, Rhode Island, United States, that achieved prominence in indie-rock circles in the early- and mid-1990s. The band broke up in 1996 but re-formed in 1998 and have continued to record, releasing their most recent album in 2004.

In 1990 Velvet Crush released its first single, "If Not True/One Thing Two Believe" for the indie label Bus Stop Records. The next year they released their debut album on Ringers Lactate Records. Produced by Sweet in his living room studio, In the Presence of Greatness was filled with enthusiasm, punk energy, and Borchardt's slashing chords. For the album, the Velvet Crush covered former Byrd Gene Clark’s Why Not Your Baby, performed a song written by Sweet entitled Something’s Got to Give, co-wrote a convincing country-soul song called Faster Days with Stephen Duffy, and crafted other original pop and country-inspired numbers such as the romantic folk-rock song Weird Summer and the spiraling guitar.

The music was timeless, but the message was unmistakably, furiously of its historical moment: a post-9/11, post-Katrina, post-Iraq invasion dispatch from the depths of the Bush era. "I was a lover, before this war," sang Kyp Malone and Tunde Adebimpe. On his transfixing debut album, Skinner set himself apart by not trying to be American, instead rapping about clubbing, carousing, fistfights in fish-and-chips shops and other rituals of twenty-something working-class English life. To American ears, the . garage-style beats were bracingly coarse and exotic. The Libs mixed the wistful melodies of the early Kinks with the bruised punk rock romanticism of John Thunders and the Heartbreakers, sounding totally knackered even as they flicked out ace melodies with the ease of someone tossing a lit cigarette out of a moving taxi cab.

Complete recordings of Alexander Glazunov’s orchestral music (eight symphonies, three ballets and all orchestral works – 17 CDs in all!) open the second part of the Anthology. Most of them were made in 1989 and 1990. The set also includes an earlier, never before released recording of the Concerto Ballata for cello and orchestra featuring Mstislav Rostropovich. Evgeny Svetlanov had very special feelings for the symphonic music of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. To him these names were eternal beacons in the world of Russian music.
