Grigsby blended elements of contemporary classical music, Canterbury progressive rock chops, and a Rock in Opposition-like propensity to deconstruction and song pollution. The album was recorded between 1981 and 1983 with Grigsby, cellist Becky Heninger, reed player Lynn Johnston, and reed player/singer Christine Clements making up the Motor Totemist Guild's core. Infra Dig included the very strange and groovy "Aunt Iodine" (with lyrics taken from Luigi Futi), the patchwork manifesto "The Totem Motorist," and a very personal interpretation of the '60s pop hit "Get Angry," the band's most advanced foray ever into pop territory. Grigsby was still sorting out his influences and trying too many things at once, something best represented by "The Totem Motorist," which - as interesting as it may be - lacks focused direction and good integration of its many parts
