I recently picked up a sealed copy of this EP in Austin, TX, and let me just say it's terrific. More rock than country, but that's the kind of stuff that was going down in the 1990s. The version of "Drive South" on here is, in my book, the only one in the world that comes close to matching Suzy Bogguss' version, but that's not saying the other two cuts - "Red Sunset" and "Hole in My Heart" - aren't fine slices of Austin country as well
MCA embarked on a big marketing campaign to tout Willis after she recorded her first album on the label, the 1990 album Well Travelled Love. MCA ensured that Willis was interviewed by several national magazines including unusual venues like Vogue and Mademoiselle. Her voice appeared in the 1991 Ridley Scott-produced movie Thelma and Louise, singing "Little Honey. Willis married high school boyfriend Mas Palermo in 1989, but they divorced in 1991. In 1992, Willis met Austin singer-songwriter Bruce Robison. After several years of dating, Willis and Robison married in 1996.

Kelly Willis is the self-titled third album from the Austin, Texas-based singer. There were a couple of minor Billboard hits in the "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" (covering a 1977 hit for The Kendalls) and the "Whatever Way the Wind Blows. Also of note is a duet with Kevin Welch, "That'll Be M. Tony Brown produced the album, with co-production by Don Was and John Leventhal on the tracks "Get Real" and "Shadows of Love".
