John William "Paul" Weller Jr (born 25 May 1958) is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Weller achieved fame with the punk rock/new wave/mod revival band The Jam. He had further success with the blue-eyed soul music of The Style Council (1983–1989), before establishing himself as a solo artist in 1991.
I wanted to do something for Paul's 70th," Weller told Music Week. The man’s been, and still is, an immense and enduring inspiration for me. It was him and his three friends that made me want to pick up a guitar in the first place.
Paul Weller and his band recorded "Birthday" (originally from the Beatles' White Album) in one day down at Paul's Black Barn studios. Yep Roc Records will release the track North America. All Paul's proceeds from the sale of the single will go to the War Child charity composed of independent humanitarian organizations which work together to help children and young people affected by armed conflict.
Paul Weller might like to say otherwise – I always take great care with melody and if you think the tunes are better on this album it’s only because of the lack of augmentation – but the bucolic songs on his new record, True Meanings, have taken him to another career peak. Largely acoustic, there is a level of sophistication, maturity and intricacy here that moves him to yet another plateau. Yes, True Meanings really is that good . Sixty is quite a monumental birthday I marvel at where it’s all gone. I see Glen Matlock quite a lot and we might be chatting about being in the 100 Club in 1977 and you just have to stop and think, ‘That was over 40 years ag. This record is as pure as you’re ever going to get with Weller. Stylistically, it may follow a traditional form, but it is not a genre record.
It could mark the direction of the new album. Paul Weller turns 60 today (May 25) and to celebrate his birthday, he’s treated fans to the release of new track ‘Aspects’. It’s a reflective, acoustic effort that’s reportedly influenced by Nick Drake. It’s also said to be included on Wellers’ forthcoming 14th album, ‘True Meanings,’ released later this year. I don’t know if it’s indicative of the album, but it’s certainly the cornerstone to the record for me. It’s also where I got the title of the album fro. .Weller said in a statement.
Paul Weller is Paul Weller's first solo album, released in 1992. After disbanding The Style Council and leaving label Polydor in 1989, Weller formed The Paul Weller Movement in 1990, releasing a single, Into Tomorrow, on his own Freedom High record label, in October 1991. Its success - reaching in the UK chart - led to Weller being offered a new record deal with Go! Discs, and the resulting album was released on 1 September 1992, reaching on the UK album chart.
