Black velvet And that little boy's smile Black velvet With that slow southern style A new religion that'll bring ya to your knees Black velvet if you please. Up in Memphis The music's like a heatwave White lightning Bound to drive you wild Mama's baby's in the heart of every schoolgirl "Love Me Tender" leaves 'em cryin' in the aisle. The way he moved It was a sin So sweet and true Always wanting more He'd leave you longing for. Black velvet And that little boy's smile Black velvet With that slow southern.
Black Velvet may refer to: The Black Velvets, an English rock band. Black Velvet" (song), a 1989 song by Alannah Myles. Black Velvet", a song by Ferry Corsten from the 2008 album Twice in a Blue Moon. Black Velvet", a song by Gass from the 1970 album Juju. Black Velvet (Robin Lee album), 1990, featuring a cover of the song "Black Velvet". Black Velvet (O'Donel Levy album), 1971. Black Velvet (revue), a revue at the London Hippodrome in 1939.
Black Velvet" is a song written by Canadian songwriters Christopher Ward and David Tyson, recorded by Canadian singer songwriter Alannah Myles. It was released in December 1989 as one of four singles from Myles' 1989 eponymous album from Atlantic Records. It became a number-one hit for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1990 and reached number one on the Album Rock Tracks chart, as well as number ten in her native Canada and number two on the UK Singles Chart.
Cyberpope from Richmond, CanadaI always understood "black velvet" to refer to the iconic prints of Elvis that were very popular at one time (all on black velvet). Sandy from Enterprise, FlI've always loved this soulful, sexy song but for some reason, I thought it was done by Heart until last night when I heard it on Sirius and saw that it was by Alannah Myles, about whom I really know nothing . Paddle from Melbourne, AustraliaBlack Velvet by Alannah Myles is a fantastic song. The 'S. K. Shuffle' line dance was choreographed and danced to this song.
Black Velvet contains all brand new studio recordings along with Black Velvet 2007, a new recording with a contemporary arrangement of her classic hit. Co-produced by hotly touted Torontonian Mike Borkosky and mixed by renown producer Terry Brown. Black Velvet continues to prove that Alannah has got one of the most distinctive voices in rock music. The production is great and the songs are great. I am usually a little turned off when artists revisit their past hits, but she was able to record Black Velvet with a totally different approach. I bought this album because i am a fan, and always will be. Like any great artist, sometimes song-choice is something to consider - and re-consider - before making an album. Alanah Myles and Alanis Morissette are just two of the female artists I truely enjoy, and i now have her full discography - as too Alanis.
Like so many Groove Merchant efforts, the album relies far too much on the pop charts for material - pap like "You've Made Me So Very Happy," "I'll Be There," and "Theme from Love Story" turns up like bad pennies - but the arrangements are lovely, spotlighting contributions from organist Charles Covington, reedist Fats Theus, and trumpeter Billy Skinner.
Alannah Myles: Black Velvet Meaning. Tagged: Elvis Memphis. Alannah Myles never sang that song on the album. Found out through a record industry big wig that they paid a "Ghost Singer" to sing that song. Paid her a decent sum to not talk about it or perform it live anywhere I was nicknamed, "Black Velvet". One day I was asked about the song lyrics. I believe that this song is about Elvis Presley and his rise to fame; and subsequently, his death. Up in Memphis, the musics like a heat wave" is referencing Elvis' birthplace and where he started singing what could you do" refers to Elvis' overdose and sudden death. I could be wrong, but I've sang this song so many times that it's all I think about when I'm singing it.
