Brenda Russell is the self-titled debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Brenda Russell, released on February 23, 1979 by A&M Records. The album peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard R&B albums chart. After working for several years with her then-husband Brian Russell as session musicians and by themselves as the duo Brian & Brenda in the mid-1970s, the couple divorced and Brenda Russell embarked on a solo career by signing with A&M Records.

Ron Russell, Stunts: Only the Strong. Ron Russell was born in 1944 in California, USA as Ronald Russell. He is known for his work on Only the Strong (1993), Return to Peyton Place (1972) and The Outsider (1968).

Russell: Well, Ron wrote a good portion of that album. So, basically, there were songs that Ron had written, and then there were one or two that Alex Kapranos had written on his own. And there were a couple of instances where they had a backing track of a song as a band, but no structure, so we took it and made it sound like a song. Ron: Of that variety, "Man Without a Tan" and "Police Encounters" were both things they had written instrumentally, and we added a vocal and lyrics to those. Ron: Never had, no. We've been fortunate because even if we've had people who didn't want to take the chance, we've been really lucky to always have situations where strong people really wanted our music to be a part of their label. Those are things where you look back and you think, "If that hadn't happened, how would things have gone?"
