A miscellany is a collection of various pieces of writing by different authors. Meaning a mixture, medley, or assortment, a miscellany can include pieces on many subjects and in a variety of different forms. In contrast to anthologies, whose aim is to give a selective and canonical view of literature, miscellanies were produced for the entertainment of a contemporary audience and so instead emphasise collectiveness and popularity.
Songes and Sonettes, usually called Tottel's Miscellany, was the first printed anthology of English poetry. Richard Tottel was an English publisher with a shop at Temple Bar on Fleet Street in London. His main business was the publication of law textbooks but his biggest contribution to English literature would come in the form of the anthology of poetry.
Souvenir of the Great World War. This cloth souvenir was included in a substantial family collection, but is the only item that relates to the First World War. How it was acquired cannot be determined, but it was most certainly created as a keepsake for Australian and New Zealand servicemen between 1914-1918. Printed on very fine cotton, it is too fine to be what we would identify as a tea-towel, perhaps a scarf ? It measures approximately 460 x 600 cm and would make a fine framed object. The central image depicts The Landing of our Gallant Sons of Empire on the Gallipoli Pennsula.
A souvenir can be any object that can be collected or purchased and transported home by the traveler as a memento of a visit. The object itself may have intrinsic value, or be a symbol of experience. A more grisly form of souvenir in the First World War was displayed by a Pathan soldier to an English Territorial. After carefully studying the Tommy's acquisitions (a fragment of shell, a spike and badge from a German helmet), he produced a cord with the ears of enemy soldiers he claimed to have killed As memorabilia. Souvenir Album of Houston, 1891.
A distinction is made between two principal types of word-formation: word-derivation and word-composition. The basic ways of forming words in word-derivation are affixation and conversion. Affixation is the formation of a new word with the help of affixes, . Sound-interchange is the formation of a word due to an alteration in the phonemic composition of its root. Sound-interchange falls into two groups: 1) vowel interchange: food – to feed. In some cases vowel-interchange is combined with suffixation: strong – strength; 2) e: advice – to advise.

The souvenir of choice to bring back from Russia is of course a set of Russian dolls. However, when you come to Russia, you will notice that there is a wide range of souvenirs on offer. Russian souvenirs come in various forms. For example there are souvenirs from Imperial or Soviet times such as busks or portraits of tsars or of Lenin (even Stalin in more specialist places) or other antiques from these periods.
