He continued his studies at Chicago Music College and Chicago's DePaul University, At age fifteen, he joined a jazz band, The Cleffs, and circa 1956, formed the Ramsey Lewis Trio with two other members of The Cleffs, Eldee Young (bass) and Isaac 'Redd' Holt (drums). Their debut LP, 'Ramsey Lewis & The Gentlemen Of Swing' was released in 1956, when all three were in their early twenties
