Aja (/ˈeɪʒə/, pronounced Asia) is the sixth studio album by the jazz rock band Steely Dan. Originally released in 1977 on ABC Records, the album peaked at number three on the US charts and number five in the UK. It was the band's first platinum album and ultimately became their best-selling studio release, eventually selling over 5 million copies. It spawned a number of hit singles, including "Peg", "Deacon Blues", and "Josie"

Aja was originally released in 1977 andwas Steely Dan's first album to go platinum, This remastered version only has subtle differences to my aging ear. I was pleased with the original vinyl and mine is, by any measure, well worn out. Getting this CD brings back the music and auto-rip saves me time gettign it onto my mobile devices. What impresses me is how well their music (not just Aja) has held.

Steely Dan have several songs with a Far East influence, since Donald Fagen believes it is a symbol of sensuality. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen used a variety of musicians on the Aja album, choosing them to suit the individual tracks.

They recorded over a six month period in various state-of-the-art studios across New York and .

Steely Dan. Released September 23, 1977. Jazzwax: What haven’t you ever told anyone before about the album Aja? Donald Fagen: Wow. Well, I know that halfway through we decided we wanted to go back to NY and do some tracks with some of the people we knew in the city. We felt that although there were great musicians in . we were missing a little bit of soul from the days we were doing New York sessions. Half the album was done in . and half was done in New York. We brought Larry Carlton back with us to New York to supervise. Other than Larry, we used New York players. It gave the album soul. We were able to use Paul Griffin and.
