Steve Roach (born February 16, 1955) is an American composer and performer of ambient and electronic music, whose recordings are informed by his impressions of environment, perception, flow and space. His work has been influential in the new age genre. Roach has received two Grammy Award nominations for New Age Album of the Year: His 2017 album Spiral Revelation for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. and 2018's Molecules Of Motion for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards.

Steve Roach's music, composed over the more than twenty years of his career, draws you into his own personal journey as a fellow-traveler. From his German-influenced electronic sequencer pieces of the late 70s through mid-80s, to the emergence of his much-imitated "desert" style of floating chords and aboriginal- inspired rhythms, into his percussion-heavy "shamanic" style of the mid-'90s, and then into his newest work with sophisticated computer-generated fractal electronica, Roach has constantly evolved and changed and added. CORE, Roach's latest solo album, reflects every one of these experiences, and more. There is definitely a "Roach Retrospective" aspect to this album, an attempt to look back over those twenty-plus years.

In 1988, inspired by the Peter Weir film The Last Wave, Roach journeyed to the Australian outback, with field recordings of aboriginal life inspiring his acknowledged masterpiece, the double-album Dreamtime Return. A year later, he teamed with percussionist Michael Shrieve and guitarist David Torn for The Leaving Time, an experiment in ambient jazz

With neither taking the center stage for long, he carefully and thoughtfully blends the timbral elements, rhythms, and his, by now, lush, trademark Roach chordings to absolute and complete sonic perfection.
