MIT pianist to perform at Jordan Hall Jan flac album

pianist and New England Conservatory (NEC) faculty member Lilit n will appear in a solo recital at NEC’s illustrious Jordan Hall in Boston. The program will include Sonata in F Major by Haydn, Schumann’s Fantasy in C Major, a selection of nocturnes and mazurkas by Chopin, and the world premiere of an arrangement of Komitas songs by Armenia-based composer Villy Sargsyan. The concert is free and open to the public. Jordan Hall is located at 30 Gainsborough St. in Boston.

The Arthur Jordan Memorial Hall, often referred to as "Jordan Hall", is a historic building on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is one of the original buildings of the campus, along with Atherton Union and Hinkle Fieldhouse. It was designed by architect Robert Frost Daggett and built in 1928. A four-story, Collegiate Gothic style building, it is a reinforced concrete structure with bearing walls of pink granite with limestone trim. Fred Hersch is a well-respected session pianist and bandleader who has taught at the New School and is currently on the faculty of the New England Conservatory in Boston. This disc documents a faculty recital he played in October of 1998, a concert that was never intended to be released commercially. But Hersch, who hadn't played a full concert in public for over six months before his recital at Jordan Hall, was so pleased with this performance that he agreed to allow Nonesuch to issue it on CD. He was right.

Jordan Hall has won numerous awards since its restoration in 1995, including the 1996 Massachusetts Historical Commission Preservation Award, the Victorian Society in America's Preservation Commendation, the 1996 Boston Preservation Alliance Award, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America Award of Merit, and the Illuminating Engineering Society 1996 Lumen Award. The Conservatory's main building, which includes Jordan Hall, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994; in both cases the name used is New.
