On his debut album, We Can Create, Chapman displays a flair for widescreen arrangements that would normally sound more at home in an orchestra hall than a bedroom, particularly on the soaring "You Don't Know Her Name," which updates the sweetly sleepy vocals and skyward guitars of classic shoegaze with gurgling synths that recall Boards of Canada

Maps : We Can Create. At various points on this aural journey, Chapman takes a breather, such as on Glory Verse, which comes up a bit short, given the energy and power of the surrounding tracks.

Maps – We Can Create. However, tracks like Liquid Sugar and Back & Forth that bounce along with their processed beats and interesting strokes of keyboards, help bolster these moments and help create an album that works well as a complete entity. The tracks all feel part of one theme and artistic vision. Maybe not quite as cinematic an experience as M83, but it certainly matches James LaValle’s recent efforts with The Album Leaf

Every respectable drug-related album needs a microdot of mysticism. On the stately Glory Verse Chapman gets transcendent while ruminating over his gift for music.
