Queen guitarist Brian May is set to delight fans with the release of a new book, which includes never-seen-before images of the group from his personal photo archive. Pictured: May in a hotel room in 1978 with one of the stereoscopic cameras that the musician carried during the height's of the band's fame. Many of the book's 300 images were captured on various stereoscopic cameras that were carried by the rock legend during the height of the band's fame. The book is the first of its kind to be published by a member of the band on the band and was put together with the help of Denis Pellerin, stereoscopic historian, and official Queen archivist, Greg Brooks. The band's hedonistic lifestyle is revealed in the 'evocative' shots including this photograph of Freddie Mercury (centre) drinking a glass of red wine in the back of a white New York limo in 1975.
Another World is the second studio album by Queen guitarist Brian May. Recorded at his home studio after the completion of the last Queen album, Made in Heaven, the album was released in the UK on 1 June 1998 and on 15 September of that year in the US. The album itself started as a cover album. The "Heroes" concept was to record his favourite tracks from his favourite artists, but the idea soon mutated into a full album
Queen guitarist Brian May's first complete attempt at a solo album, Back to the Light, focuses on the hard rock sound that Queen often abandoned in the 1980s. While obviously sounding similar to some of the work by his former band, May's path is far more hard-edged and emotionally punched than the majority of Queen's work.
Queens’ fifth album A Day At The Races begins with the unmistakable sound of Brian May playing his famous hand-made ‘Red Special’ guitar – in the grandiose intro to his killer heavy rock song Tie Your Mother Down. With this guitar, also known as ‘The Fireplace’ and ‘The Old Lady’, May created a sound that was utterly unique. Unusually for a drummer, Roger Taylor was writing and singing songs from the very start of Queen’s recording career. But it was on the band’s third album, Sheer Heart Attack, that he delivered his first great song.
Brian May drew upon his physics education to create the massive stomping and clapping sounds on We Will Rock You. Before he achieved rock stardom, Brian May studied mathematics and physics at Imperial College London, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in physics in 1968. On the striking gatefold cover of News of the World, a giant robot holds an unconscious Brian May and a bleeding Freddie Mercury aloft, while John Deacon and Roger Taylor spill from its hand and tumble downward. The cover art was painted by acclaimed artist Frank Kelly Freas, who had previously worked for Mad magazine and numerous science-fiction publications.
