The second Blood, Sweat & Tears album is a coat of many colors, and very 1969. Bookended by a rock interpretation of Erik Satie, the album mixes Smiling Phases, a Sly Stone funk freakout heavy on the brass, with Sometimes in Winter, a languid croon built from prog-rock stabs and Sinatra’s bitter introspection. Spinning Wheel is psychedelic folk wisdom delivered in a soul vamp, while You’ve Made Me so Very Happy anticipates early-‘70s bubblegum pop while sounding utterly devoted and sincere. Blood, Sweat & Tears. Blood, Sweat & Tears. Variations on a Theme by Erik Satie (1st and 2nd Movements - Adapted from "Trois Gymnopedies').

Kooper was even still present as an arranger on two tracks, notably the initial hit "You've Made Me So Very Happy
