Elva Ruby Miller (October 5, 1907 – July 5, 1997), who recorded under the name "Mrs. Miller", was an American singer who gained some fame in the 1960s for her series of shrill and off-key renditions of popular songs such as "Moon River", "Monday, Monday", "A Lover's Concerto", and "Downtown".

Will Success Spoil Mrs. Miller?! followed, and The Country Soul of Mrs. Miller came a year later. Mrs. Miller sang for US servicemen in Vietnam, performed at the Hollywood Bowl, guest starred on numerous television shows, and appeared in Roddy McDowall's film The Cool Ones. However, interest in Mrs. Miller soon waned. She later issued several singles on her own Vibrato Records label, then retired from singing in the early 1970s  . Miller - Mrs. Miller, eigentlich Elva Ruby Connes ( 5. Oktober 1907 in Joplin, Missouri; † 28. Juni 1997 in Vista, Kalifornien) war eine amerikanische Popsängerin. Ihre Gesangsfähigkeiten sind sehr umstritten.

Who Is Mrs. Miller? In April 1966, under the roar of Vietnam and a raging counter-culture, emerged a singer like no other. Off-pitch and off-tempo, a 59 year-old grandmother would perform rock standards such as "Hard Days Night", "Downtown", and "These Boots and Made for Walking" in a bizarre operatic style. She even donned a muumuu and army boots to perform for the troops in Vietnam with Bob Hope. But the music of Mrs. Miller is not nearly as strange as the story of her rise to fame. Originally from Dodge City, Kansas, Elva married John Miller (a man thirty years her senior) in 1934 and moved to Claremont, California. She had long been an aspiring singer, having performed at KGNO back in Dodge City and with the local choir in Claremont.

Elva Miller rates highly as one of the single most colorful, unlikely, and hence oddly endearing musical celebrities to ever achieve a considerable amount of fame in the mid-1960's  . Elva's fourth and final album "Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing" was released by the obscure Amaret record label in 1968.

Talk about Mrs. Elva Miller - The Country Soul Of Mrs. Miller

When she double-tracks the vocals, the (un)sympathetic vibrations make my head want to explode. I sent a spare (worse condition) copy of this to a C&W friend, who wrote me back and said it was the worst thing he'd ever heard.
