Allegedly, rumors have circulated for years that Willie used to procure women for famous black comedians, actors and athletes. As a comedian he released two LP albums of his live performances entitled, "Ghost of Davy Crockett," released in 1973 and "From North Philly," which came out three years later. He also recorded a single called Big Jim/Groovin in North Philly

This Philly Soul sound later became a prominent and distinct era within R&B itself. Some of their most popular and best selling acts included Patti LaBelle, The O'Jays, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, MFSB, Billy Paul, and Lou Rawls.
