Authentic Russian church folk music is primarily vocal. Russian folk song was an integral part of daily village life. It was sung from morning to night, and reflected the four seasons and significant events in villagers' lives. Its roots are in the orthodox church services where significant parts are sung. The music became popular and soon Andreyev had organized a club of balalaika players. This club grew into an orchestra, which in time grew into a movement. Alexey Arhipovsky is considered the modern-day Russian Paganini of the balalaika, but with a Pat Metheny approach.

Liberation Music Orchestra is a band and jazz album by Charlie Haden released in 1970, Haden's first as leader.

In this music band there are two Russian musicians: Mikhail Shalmanov and Valentin Tkach. The song is about the romance of a big city, about simple and light – about love. And let the world wait. Serebro is a Russian female pop group. Serebro means silver. The group includes Olga Seryabkina, Daria Shashina and Polina Favorskaya. Serebro won the 3rd prize at the Eurovision competition. This is a song about love from the point of view of a possessive woman. Never, never, to nobody. I will not give you up.

Symphonic, chamber, instrumental, choral - Russian music is the best. Tchaikovsky called Ruslan, 'the Tsar of operas'. The thrilling overture is a favourite in its own right and performed more than the opera.

If you know enough about the genre, please vote based on the quality of the band's music instead of just voting for the most popular russian pop bands that you might've heard of, but not really listened to closely enough to cast an informed vote.

The roots of Russian folk music date as far back as to the middle of the first millennium AC, when Slavic tribes settled in the European part of the present territory of Russia. Those tribes were famous for their love and mastery of music, singing and dancing, according to Byzantium and German manuscripts. It is known, that in 591 Avars' khan sent Slavic singers and gusli players as ambassadors to Byzantium Emperor. In the 19th century the musician Vasily Andreyev established the so-called Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments. Following the prototypes of some folk instruments, not limited to authentically Russian ones only, a set of music instruments was partly restored and partly devised, able to perform complicated music compositions. Ideally Andreyev aspired to create an orchestra that would not be inferior to the classical symphonic orchestra.
