Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum (NBCM, New Bach's Collegium Musicum) is a chamber orchestra, founded in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany. It follows the tradition of collegia musica, developed by Johann Sebastian Bach, also in Leipzig. Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum was founded in 1979 by Max Pommer and Walter Heinz Bernstein. All musicians are members of the Gewandhausorchester.
Unser Mund sei voll Lachens (May our mouth be full of laughter), BWV 110, is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed the Christmas cantata in Leipzig for Christmas Day and first performed it on 25 December 1725. Bach composed the cantata in his third year as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. He used a text by Georg Christian Lehms, which was published already in 1711
In 1979 members of the Gewandhaus Orchestra founded Das Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig ( NBCML). The name refers to the ‘Collegium Musicum’ founded by . Telemann in 1702, which . Bach himself headed from 1729. The Thomaskantor gave regular concerts in Leipzig’s coffee-houses with the orchestra, which mainly comprised students, and wrote many works for this ensemble including many of his secular cantatas (for example, the Coffee Cantata BWV 211). Musical Life in Leipzig in the second half of the 17th century was influenced considerably by the existence of the Collegia musica consisting mainly of university students. It is quite obvious that Bach must have been interested in an ensemble that was flourishing as well as the Collegium musicum, the one founded by Telemann.

I think many people have been drawn to Bach with his Christmas Oratorio and cantatas, and this album with its carefully chosen works is a great introduction to this composer. You might be tempted to explore the full length recordings of the selections in this CD since its contents will whet your appetite for more of a Bach Christmas experience!
