There's a Riot Goin' On is the fifth studio album by American funk and psychedelic soul band Sly and the Family Stone. It was recorded from 1970 to 1971 at Record Plant Studios in Sausalito, California and released later that year on November 20 by Epic Records. The album's recording was dominated by band frontman Sly Stone during a period of drug use and intra-group tension

Larry informs his mother he has invited a few guests to stay for an indeterminate amount of time. When Mrs. Durrell insists there is no room at the villa Larry counters that the best option is to move to a bigger home. Mrs. Durrell is adamant they are not moving again. The house offers Gerald the opportunity to dedicate more time and space to his hobby. George has left the island leaving Gerald with complete freedom to explore his new surroundings. The family bid farewell to Theodore and Mr. Kralefsky, and attempt to comfort a sobbing Spiro before their ship leaves the island. The family's moods are not improved when Mrs. Durrell learns the Swiss official has classified her family as a traveling circus and staff.
Larry Graham bridged the eras of funk by laying groundwork with Sly & The Family Stone then reappearing decades later as a key Prince collaborator, leading the fine band Graham Central Station in the interim. But no bassline defines funk better than that perfectly nasty one on Sly’s ‘Thank You (Faletting Me Be Mice Elf Again)’. 7: James Jamerson (The Funk Brothers) . Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks Larry Taylor should be on this list. He’s in my personal top 10. Great player.
