Nappy Roots' major-label debut is a fast-moving affair, stock-full of sweet pop hooks and loaded down with an easy, good-time feeling. Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz is a party album of a different sort, splitting the difference between the fat beats of the West Coast and the Dirty South's gritty funk to carve out their own distinctive, high-octane jams. The group's six members met at Western Kentucky University - four are Kentucky natives - and make little secret of their Southern roots.

Watermelon, Chicken, & Gritz. Watermelon, Chicken, & Gritz Tracklist.

On their first major release album Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz, Nappy Roots serve up a plate of some southern hospitality and originality. A mixture that has hints of Cash Money Millionaires, Outkast and a little Goodie Mob for good measure, yet maintains its own Kentucky-fried flavor. Comprised of six members, Nappy Roots originaly had its start on the campus of Western Kentucky U. And as their name implies, they're all about sticking to their roots and not selling out on the latest Hip-Hop fads

Only 3 left in stock (more on the way). Now, with their long-awaited Atlantic Records debut, WATERMELON, CHICKEN, AND GRITZ, Nappy Roots are ready to spread their unique sound and vision from coast to coast. The group's organically funky hip-hop stylings blend serious lyrical science and Dirty South grooves, notably on tracks like the ruminating "Life's A Risk" and the block-rockin' party anthem, "Ballin On A Budget".
