The originals are a mixed bag that provide a good canvas for the virtuoso playing by McGee and company, who seem to take to the expansive side of early-'70s hard rock very nicely and comfortably, and even manage to have fun with the song selection.

New Testament features the Cajun master guitar player Gerry McGee on lead with Don Wilson, Bob Bogle,Mel taylor and Johnny Durille (Classic '68 line-up) and although it was widely overlooked due to the terrible album art, the music therein is some of the best for the period. the tunes that stand out is Torquay and Love is blue. both done with finesse and soul

While the muddled New Testament is among the Ventures' least successful outings, this two-fer is worthwhile for its inclusion of More Golden Greats, a generous hits compilation.
