A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night is an album of classic 20th-century standards sung by American singer Harry Nilsson. The album was arranged by Frank Sinatra's arranger Gordon Jenkins, and produced by Derek Taylor. In 1988, it was reissued as A Touch More Schmilsson in the Night, containing an intro and outro (studio chatter) and six additional songs from the recording sessions.
Recorded at CTS, The Music Centre, Wembley, London, between March 15 & March 22, 1973. Mixed, with a six-word overdub, between April 4 & April 6, 1973. This album is notable in being a standards album produced a decade before such works started to become popular again. Although Nilsson's album met with only modest chart success, it is often regarded as the finest example of his virtuosic singing. Nilsson was nearly a decade ahead of Linda Ronstadt and other nouveau crooners in hiring a conductor/arranger of the pre-rock era (in this case Gordon Jenkins) and recording an album of standards before a full orchestra. And he did it better than most, proving to be a marvelous interpreter of songs like "What'll I Do?" and "Makin' Whoopee!" His version of "As Time Goes By" became a minor hit.
