Alpha Blondy (born Seydou Koné; 1 January 1953 in Dimbokro, Ivory Coast) is a reggae singer and international recording artist.

Alpha Blondy's position in the history of reggae music is a direct reflection of his physical distance from the island of Jamaica. Born in the Ivory Coast, his music is the product of a wider cultural scope than his Jamaican counterparts, a fact evident in the music itself. Before discovering reggae in college, Blondy had absorbed the rock music popular in the United States during the '60s and '70s. Perhaps not surprisingly, Blondy's output has earned him larger audiences in Europe and the United States than in Jamaica. The Best of Alpha Blondy focuses on the period from 1985-1987, a particularly prolific one for the singer that saw the release of the most popular albums of his career. Anchored around the bass-and-drum combo of Aston and Carlton Barrett, their fellow Wailer Earl Lindo (keyboards) and guitar great Earl "Chinna" Smith, the cuts from 1986's Jerusalem are the standouts.

Alpha Blondy is without a doubt the best reggae artist on the scene today with the possible exception of Bob Marley. His sound is well produced and smooth and if you can't up off yer arse and dance to this, brother you can't dance. My only criticism of this album is that there are so many other songs that were left off, several of them real standouts. The CD should have at least 20 or so songs on it. Oh well, can't have it all.
