Staring at the Sun is the eighth studio album released by the British jazz/funk band Level 42, in 1988. The album includes the singles "Heaven in My Hands" (UK No. 12 in 1988), "Take a Look" (UK No. 32) and "Tracie" (UK no. 25). This is the first Level 42 album not to feature brothers Phil Gould and Boon Gould, although Boon did write the lyrics to six of the songs. They were replaced by British guitarist Alan Murphy, who had collaborated with Go West and singer Kate Bush, and drummer Gary Husband, who had been a member of the band Morrissey–Mullen. This album was not as successful as its predecessors, reaching again the Top 5 in the . but missing the Billboard 100 in the . Internationally, it reached the Top 10 in several countries, but ultimately had a lesser impact on the charts than the band's two previous albums.

Level 42's most visible members had always been bassist/vocalist Mark King and Mike Lindup. Founding members Phil and Boon Gould, the band's primary songwriters, left the group prior to the making of Staring at the Sun. Level 42 would never fully recover from the loss of the two key players; their departure severely affected the band's sound. Considering the poor quality of the songs on Staring at the Sun, the sluggish performances are perfectly understandable. but the rest of this stuff!

Guaranteed is the ninth studio album by the British musical group Level 42, released in 1991, their first album of the 1990s. The album was released by RCA records and it was the first Level 42 studio album released by a label other than Polydor. Guaranteed was the first Level 42 album without a songwriting contribution from former member Boon Gould, who had contributed lyrics to some songs for the 1988 album Staring at the Sun following his departure from the band.
