Movies & Culture. The calendar dictates that decades end on certain days, but the above gallery of 1981's Best Rock Albums tells us something different. Clearly, this is the moment when the '70s were officially over. By August of that year, MTV had launched – heralding the true beginning of a new era. New Wave was soon joined by hip-hop as defining elements of the early '80s and then, some years later, by hair metal. But for now, inside the comfy confines of 1981, more established classic rock artists like the Rolling Stones, Rush, Journey, Tom Petty and Genesis still held sway

The History of Rock is a compilation album by Kid Rock. Released in 2000, the album consists of re-recorded versions of songs from the album The Polyfuze Method, remixed versions of songs from the album Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp, demos and unreleased songs, including the single "American Bad Ass". Many of the compilation's songs were previously released on Kid Rock's second and third studio albums, The Polyfuze Method and Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp

Release group by Various Artists.

As he prepped a follow-up, he unleashed The History of Rock, a hodgepodge of new songs, unreleased tunes, demos, old cuts, and re-recordings. According to The History, Rock always knew what he was doing. Anyone that's heard The Polyfuze Method knows that's not the case, but that's the beauty of The History, since the early stuff now sounds of a piece with Devil. It isn't nearly as good, but it has some of the same thrills since his band hits harder and funkier.
