Big Swing Face is a 1967 live album and the second album by Buddy Rich and his 1960s big band. The Beat Goes On" is a feature for Rich's daughter Cathy, whose vocal performance was overdubbed later at United Recording in Hollywood. A reissue in 1996 doubles the listing with nine previously unreleased performances from the same engagement at the Chez Club in Hollywood. This is the third Buddy Rich album with his new band. The music is great if you like Big Band music. This is the album that has the original Channel One Suit on it. Which is the second most requested number in his book, he played it every gig it was expected. The drum solo is awesom I am still into it with both feet after 45 years. Its just as fresh and new as the first time I heard. I've been dipping my toes into the water of Big Band Music for some time now. Seeing as how I'm a relative newcomer, I'm naturally attracted to the big names, and with Drumming being the area I'm most interested in, Buddy Rich naturally stands out. I've heard and viewed enough of his drumming over the years to conclude that he rises above pretty much every drummer ever, and this disc doesn't disappoint in the least, particularly on Channel One Suite.
