The Pink Album is a 1967 album by American vocal group The Marvelettes, also their seventh LP. Recording for "The Pink Album" began in 1966. While Smokey Robinson handled much of the production, there is also production from James Dean and William Weatherspoon, who would provide material for The Marvelettes' next album. Producers felt that the group needed to offer a sound more mature and developed that contrasted their previous recordings.

They consisted of schoolmates Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson (nee Schnaffer), Georgeanna Tillman (nee Gordon), Juanita Cowart (later Juanita Cowart Motley) and Georgia Dobbins, who was replaced by Wanda Young (nee Rogers) prior to the group signing their first deal.

In this case, whomever is asking man for their name could be referring to them as John Doe. This may even be a reference to the Biblical character, John, who was more widely known as John the Baptist rather than just plain John. Hey John, What's Your Name Again?" Track Info. Written By The Devil Wears Prada. Lead Vocals Mike Hranica. Keyboards James Baney. Guitar Jeremy DePoyster & Chris Rubey. Drums Daniel Williams.

As this album featured no other Marvelettes, original member Katherine Anderson refused to participate in appearing on the cover of the album due to what she felt was Motown's disrespect towards her and the group. The album was only a modest hit, reaching on the R&B album charts and featured no charted hit singles. Following this, the group disbanded with Katherine Anderson settling briefly as a staff writer for Motown. Due to a legal disagreement with Larry Marshak, who bought the Marvelettes' name from Motown after the label lost rights to the name, Horton would fight for years to retain ownership of the name. Marshak had several groups billing themselves as "The Marvelettes", but the women who portrayed themselves as the Marvelettes were much younger than the original lineup, and had not.
