let go of what you want it to be. let go of how you think it to should be. even let go of your vision. and so we began by bringing in compositions and tearing them apart to find out what worked. This recording is a crystallization of that process. In January of 2011, Jerry Granelli called it. The material was ready. The recording could begin. After almost a year of tearing the music apart and pulling it back together; communications over long distances and intimate rehearsals; playing the pieces live and hidden away in Jerry’s studio-the trio and the music were ready.

Jerry Granelli has worked with several generations of jazz greats, including Ornette Coleman, Sonny Stitt, and Mose Allison. When you listen to the Vince Guaraldi Trio play "A Charlie Brown Christmas," that's Granelli on the drums. At the XRIJF he'll be joined by Robben Ford, one of the great blues guitarists of the last half-century. And yes, Jerry Granelli made up a third of the Vince Guaraldi trio that recorded the music to the Peanut's TV special: A Charlie Brown Christmas. We've got Jerry Granelli the legend himself talking to Ben about Jerry's latest release Dance Hall. Listen to songs from the album Dance Hall (feat. Robben Ford, Bill Frisell & J. Trio is the first studio album from the Northern German band of the same name. It was released on October 27, 1981, by Mercury Records. It included a bonus single and has a handle attached to the cover.

Drummer Jerry Granelli was born in San Francisco and first got noticed as a musician while drumming in Vince Guaraldi's and Denny Zeitlin's trios. By the early '60s, he was playing free jazz as well. Inspired by Tibetan Buddhism, Granelli moved to Boulder, CO, in 1976 to start a music department a. .

Over the past half a century, Jerry Granelli has been making his mark by being his own man. Who else but a staunch individualist could make his initial splash(es) by holding down the drum chairs in the Vince Guaraldi Trio and the Denny Zeitlin Trio. And that was just the beginning for this inside-outside talent. Subsequent work supporting everybody from saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom to guitarist Robben Ford solidified Granelli's reputation as a sideman, but it's his leader dates that really show the scope of his imagination.

Jerry Granelli (born December 30, 1940) is an American-born Canadian jazz drummer Notes.
