Bearing in mind Tresor's no-nonsense club reputation and the green-tinged surveillance imagery of the sleeve art, one might expect DARK OF HEARTNESS to be another exercise in run-of-the-(Jeff) Mills trackiness.

1989 dragged Scotsman Tobias Schmidt out of his native foothills and into the sleaze of Brighton‘s sunlit shores. Originally a key-player from the Edinburgh camp of Neil Landstrumm and Dave Tarrida, Schmidt‘s own style has exploded from mohawked Amiga-hack to one of the UK‘s most stylishly abrasive dancefloor talents to date. Next step for Schmidt came in Winter 2001 with his "Destroy" LP; the penultimate statement on silicon with hairy linings. Destroy" literally punched out the wall of sound, combining tracky Chicago grooves, Dub, Funk, and Schmidt‘s own vocal tradition a la Chimp Atomique. Assured and suave while edgy (like the artist himself), the album was backed with extensive touring throughout Winter 2001 and the debut of Schmidt‘s new Nest sublabel.
