Cruising with Ruben & the Jets is the fourth studio album by the Mothers of Invention. Released on December 2, 1968, on Bizarre and Verve Records with distribution by MGM Records, it was subsequently remixed by Frank Zappa and reissued independently. As with the band's previous three albums, it is a concept album, influenced by 1950s doo wop and rock and roll.

Ruben and the Jets was an American, Los Angeles-based rock band, active between 1972 and 1974. Led by Ruben Guevara, band members included, Ruben and the Jets released two albums, the first of which was produced by Frank Zappa, whose band The Mothers of Invention had previously released an album titled Cruising with Ruben & the Jets, for which Guevera had named his band.

Side A in Stereo, and has the normal album version of "Deseri". Side B has a unique Mono mix, which is about 4 seconds longer and has much louder guitar and background vocals. The 2:17 timing on the label is incorrect, since it represents the length of the album track)

All album lyrics on one page. Ray Collins: lead vocals Frank Zappa: low grumbles, oo-wah, lead guitar Roy Estrada: high weazlings, dwaedy-doop, electric bass Jimmy Carl Black and/or Arthur Dyer Tripp III: lewd pulsating rhythm Ian Underwood or Don Preston: redundant piano triplets Motorhead Sherwood: baritone sax, tambourine Bunk Gardner & Ian Underwood: tenor, alto sax.

For Real! is the debut album of Ruben and the Jets. Released in 1973, the album was produced by Frank Zappa, who wrote the first track and played guitar on the second track. Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention recorded a concept album called Cruising with Ruben & the Jets in 1968 which involved a fictitious Chicano doo-wop and rock and roll band called Ruben and the Jets. Subsequently, Zappa stated that the Mothers of Invention would record a second Ruben & the Jets album

When I'm dancing with Deseri (Oo-ooo Deseri) All the boys are jealous of me (Deseri) I'm as happy as I can be Oh, Deseri. From: biffyshrew@aol. but since FZ didn't write the song, it was presumably not his idea! From: "Stephen C. Propes"

Zappa remixed and overdubbed it so much for the CD release that it's like a whole new album, from the '80s instead of the '60s. Defending the remix is extremely controversial. Thankfully, the vinyl mix was finally reissued (in 2010) by the Zappa Family Trust under the nom-de-disc "Greasy Love Songs have positive sightings of Cruising with Ruben & the Jets (Verve V6 5055) in Australia at least, if not New Zealand. The curious thing is that the song "Deseri" is left off. It's not on the LP but the cover and the inner label say yes. I have seen the same LP with the same catalogue number, but the song "Deseri" was on it. The sound quality is good.

Crusing With Ruben and The Jets The Mothers Of Invention* - Cruising With Ruben & The Jets was only released in Stereo in the US (although assigned Mono cat. numbers) and the UK 'Mono' pressing was just a Stereo fold-down, so Side B of this single has the only "real" Mono mix of a Ruben & The Jets track - Stock copy also exists.

Ranenast
Info looks more or less correct to me - Although this single is Documented as being released in November (or December) 1968 in many Zappa biographies, many promo copies that I've seen, are 'identically stamped' with a January 4th 1969 date. NB. There is also an almost identical promo copy with "Anyway The Wind Blows" as the A Side with the same label number and 3 different label variations of the US stock copy.
