Cuneiform Records is a record label in Silver Spring, Maryland. Founded in 1984, the label releases an mixture of musical styles, all with a Rock in Opposition aesthetic, including progressive jazz, jazz fusion, the Canterbury scene, and electronic music. Cuneiform has introduced many notable acts but also documents older bands who fit the profile, including its release of the Heldon catalog and several archival Soft Machine recordings.

My Top 50 Albums of 2018. Amanda Shires – To the Sunset (Silver Knife Records) 41. Thou – Magus (Sacred Bones) 40. Yves Tumor – Safe in the Hands of Love (Warp Records) 39. Camp Cope – How to Socialise & Make Friends (Run for Cover) 38. Kids See Ghosts – Kids See Ghosts (.

Each of the album’s tracks is a deep dive into a hesher shadow realm where Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi is God (he’s namechecked on the Sabbath-punning Giza Butler ) and time itself is only a straight-world construct. 2018 did not want for very long albums but few used their wide-open spaces as wondrously as Mississippi twin brother duo Rae Sremmurd. The last time a Southern hip-hop duo released an album as ambitious as this 101-minute psychedelic trap-music exploration, they were called Outkast. 8. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, ‘A Star Is Born Soundtrack’. The insane pop world of 2018: Always remember it this way.

After a massive year in music, NME count down the 100 greatest albums that have been released throughout 2018. The final piece in a trilogy that consists of 2014’s ‘Venice’ and 2016’s ‘Malibu’, the album confirmed that. Paak, formerly a cult figure, has entered the pantheon of modern hip-hop greats. JB. 89. Vein – ‘Errorzone’. Vein’s debut album might hold some nostalgia for ’90s hardcore and nu-metal but it also tried to bring innovation to heavy music, adding breakbeats to the crushing mix of ear-battering riffs and rhythms and Anthony Didio’s throat-tearing growls. RD. 88. Lykke Li – ‘So Sad, So Sexy’. Chicago art-pop provocateur Ezra Furman’s eighth album (with various backing bands) tells the half-true memoir of Furman falling for a transangel and having to go on the run while shadowy government agencies and Nazi gangs hunt the lovers down.

In 2018, it felt hard to reach consensus on anything-including music. The heavy-hitters of pop and hip-hop returned, but many disappointed; in fact, sometimes, they were just confounding ( cough Kanye cough ). More than ever, music felt like a playing field where new, exciting artists were sharing the discussion with the veterans, if not taking it over outright. The album is bookended by death: Its specter ripples through both the opening and closing songs, though the softness of Lenker’s voice belies the starkness and even severity of her imagery-an earthy menagerie shot through with wild animals, forests, and other kaleidoscopic fragments of the sublime.

Critics pick the best albums of 2018. Below is our updated running tally of the albums most frequently mentioned by individual music publications in their year-end top ten lists.

Here are the best rock albums of 2018. The album's biggest surprise is "Where It's At Ain't What It Is," featuring Gary Clark Jr. You might expect a guitar orgy, but instead, it's a piano-driven disco-EDM jam. If you've got a purist's approach to rock music, The Atlas Underground may not be for you, but for those who are open-minded, it's a great album that brings pop, EDM, and hip-hop to Morello's funk-rock party. Thunderpussy makes hard rock fun again. It's not a hip influence today, and aside from Gary Clark Jr. and the Stones, few mainstream artists release blues records anymore.

2018 has felt like a good one, with a lot of us pointing out that it’s been complicated to just pick one. Expect an eclectic mix of styles and moods, of veterans and debutants, of light and dark. For best results, listen along: As we are about to leave 2018 behind, reflecting on what was good is what feels important. Hope you enjoy our picks for best albums of 2018: Various Artists.
