On this unusual CD, the remarkable harmonica player Toots Thielemans explores a variety of mostly French melodies. The music is often nostalgic and wistful but generally swinging, with enough different tempos to hold one's interest throughout.

Jean-Baptiste Frédéric Isidor, Baron Thielemans (29 April 1922 – 22 August 2016), known professionally as Toots Thielemans, was a Belgian jazz musician. He was known for his harmonica playing, as well as his guitar, whistling skills, and composing. According to jazz historian Ted Gioia, his most important contribution was in "championing the humble harmonica", which Thielemans made into a "legitimate voice in jazz". He eventually became the "preeminent" jazz harmonica player.

Only 5 left in stock (more on the way). Toots Thielemans is not only a gifted musician, he is an exceptionally lovely human being. This CD really demonstrates both. Joined by Belgian guitarist Philip Cathérine, French accordionist Marcel Azzola, Dutch pianist Bert van den Brink, Dutch bassist Hein Van de Geyn, Brazilian guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves, & French drummer Andre Ceccarelli - tasteful & sensitive musicians all - together they produce some very elegant ensemble work, & a surprisingly delightful & intimate ambiance. This album offers Toots Thielemans on harmonica contributing to some familiar French and American cafe/nightclub music. The tunes most familiar to listeners: (and please bear with me, as some of these titles are in French).

Toots Thielemans: Chez Toots by Jim Santella, published on July 1, 1998. The harmonica can send a lyrical message as well as any singer can, if it's played right. Toots Thielemans has been sending out the right message for over 40 years. But it's his earliest years, growing up in his native Belgium, that the harmonica master reflects upon by constructing this album of torch songs with French lyrics. The arrangements are rooted in straight-ahead jazz, but with a twist. Thielemans is supported by pianist Bert van den Brink, bassist Hein Van de Geyn and drummer Andre Ceccarelli. Several of the guests were recorded with this quartet in a live setting; others.
