Modernism was the architecture of our television screens in those days, whether it was the hotels of Hawaii Five-0, the stone walls of The Brady Bunch house or even the ranger headquarters in Skippy. They were different to the simple 1960s project home I grew up in. I recognised the similarities between these houses and the ones on TV. It was like show business in the suburbs. Even as a 10-year-old, I sensed these buildings, with their colourful doors and interesting angles, were special.

MOTEL is the latest live show by Tim Ross and Kit Warhurst. A nostalgic, thought provoking and funny exploration of Australian holidays of the past, the show uses storytelling and song to take the audience on a sentimental motel journey.
