Who Are You is the eighth studio album by English rock band the Who, released on 18 August 1978 by Polydor Records in the United Kingdom and MCA Records in the United States. Who Are You was the Who's last album to feature Keith Moon as their drummer; Moon died three weeks after the album's release.

Who Are You was spun out of the night that Townshend, already drunk after hours of financial haggling, half-recognized two members of the Sex Pistols in a bar: that is, he thought either Steve Jones or Paul Cook was Johnny Rotten. Attention, reads a sticker on the album cover: ‘Who Are You’ (Side 2, Track 4) contains lyrics that may offend. In Had Enough, the singer tries to get mad - I’ve had enough of being nice, he chants at the beginning; Here comes the end of the world, he yells as the tune ends - but he can’t do it. The song limps, the singer fades.

The Who released the album Who Are You on August 18, 1978 and it featured a photograph by Terry O’Neill of the band atop a stack of their own PA equipment at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England. Moon had only managed to come in during the last few weeks of recording and was so far gone that he was unable to play in 6/8 time on the track Music Must Change. Ironically, the chair is labeled NOT TO BE TAKEN AWAY. Moon died (TAKEN AWAY) three.

Who, who, who, who?) I really want to know (Who are you? . Townshend was conflicted because he feared The Who had sold out, and seeing The Sex Pistols, who were icons of rebellion, exasperated him even more. Pete left that bar and passed out in a random doorway in Soho (a part of New York). A policeman recognized him ( A policeman knew my name ) and being kind, woke him and and told him, You can go sleep at home tonight (instead of a jail cell), if you can get up and walk away. Who Are You was written about meeting Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols after an awful 13-hour encounter with Allan Klein who, in my personal opinion, is the awesome rock leech-godfather. In one sense the song is more about the demands of new friendship than blood-letting challenge.
