That's Why" Released: March 27, 1991. The Party is the eponymous debut album by the band of the same name. It was the first full-length release on Hollywood Records, which was released August 1990. The Party worked with the industry's top writers and producers at the time, such as Stephen Bray, Jellybean Benitez, Andre Cymone, and Deborah Gibson. That's Why (Stephen Bray, Linda Mallah) - 4:43 - Albert. Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda (Michael Price, Terry Lupton, Mark Holden) - 4:02 - Deedee. I Found Love (Anne Preven) - 3:33 - Tiffini & Damon.
Produced by Brian Wilson, the album was recorded to coincide with the band's 50th anniversary. It is their first album to feature original material since Summer in Paradise in 1992, their first album to feature guitarist and backing vocalist David Marks since Little Deuce Coupe in 1963, and their first album since the 1998 death of co-founder Carl Wilson.
Last night was kinda blurry but I made it Got a little crazy Couple girls I woulda never had a chance with Showed up, it was all in Got to talking, now we're spinning on the dance floor And all we wanna do is party all night 'Cause every song playing is ours.
The album is a record of two halves - or sides, in case the band was thinking back to famous side-by-side classics like 1965's Today! The first half is mostly upbeat, with highlights "Isn't It Time" and the title track evoking pleasant curios from late-'60s LPs like Wild Honey or Friends. The second half is largely reflective, with songs that reveal the band's feelings about time passing and life ending (much more than any other material in their entire careers).
The album opens with a wordless incantation by Wilson, Love and Al Jardine, with longtime collaborators Bruce Johnston and Jeffrey Foskett (veteran colleague David Marks is also onboard). It’s like the start of a church service – and it leads into the title track, a harmony-robed slow dance about the days before Pandora streamed in our Priuses. Part of a 50th-anniversary reunion that includes a world tour, That’s Why God Made the Radio is, to some degree, a sugary, brand-claiming nostalgiafest. But thanks to Wilson’s return, it’s also an ambitious statement – perhaps a final one – on a legacy that’s as much defined by confusion and creative cul-de-sacs as by Pet Sounds. The album is an un- even but deeply touching work by a clearly flawed Great Band – one that, at its best, always aimed for the heavens, even if it didn’t always reach them.
