It has proven to be the most delightful and beautiful of all of these 'new' operas I have become acquainted with recently. The leading lady, Amalia, was composed for Jenny Lind, the Swedish Nightingale, and the part is the most florid bel-canto writing I've heard in any Verdi, including Luisa Miller, Violetta Valéry, and Giselda (Lombardi).
