Autopsy - Severed Survival flac album

Severed Survival is the debut album by Autopsy released in 1989. This album somewhat continues in the style of Reifert's former band Death. Lyrically the band thrives heavily on horror and gore concepts; nevertheless these are not inspired directly by horror movies, although the title track is based on Stephen King's short story "Survivor Type. The album was very influential for future death metal acts such as Cannibal Corpse, Entombed, and Dismember. It was also a pioneer of gore lyrics.

Severed Survival" is one of those albums that is almost guaranteed to make you want to start headbanging, or at least fist pumping, the instant you put it on. The vocals are brutal as fuck, right up there with Glen Benton (Deicide), Chuck Schuldiner (Death) and John Tardy (Obituary). The guitars and drums morph together to create a jackhammer that drills pure fucking metal into your brain (it sounds painful, but it's actually pretty damned awesome). It was interesting to note that Chris Reifert, who does vocals and drums for Autopsy, was the drummer on Death's "Scream Bloody Gore" album, which as well as being a death metal classic is also in my top 20 metal albums of all time (as "Severed Survival" now is). I give this album 10/10 and intend to go back to the CD store and see if they have any more Autopsy albums. 20th anniversary reissue of the first album with bonus tracks (identical to the 2003 reissue) plus an additional disc with the two new songs from the "Horrific Obsession" 7" and early rehearsal and live recordings. Autopsy - Severed Survival. It might have been sixteen years since Autopsy hit the death metal scene with their debut Severed Survival, but the afformentioned album is a staple of the genre and has influenced many bands, and will undoubtly influence many more. When this album was released the genre was but young, and needed some strong albums to define it and set a standard for the inevitable barrage of imitators inclusive with the birth of any genre. In my opinion, this album does just that. From the very beginning the formula to follow is apparent
