Album Planetary Invasion. Will someone please hang that phone up? We're sorry You must first dial a one when calling this number  . Operator, can I help you?" "Yes, I'm trying to, uh, reach my baby And I dialed six one six" "Hey, sir, could you speak up A little louder because I can just barely hear you".

Midnight Star is an American group that had a string of hits in the 1980s. The group was formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by trumpeter Reggie Calloway, vocalist Belinda Lipscomb, calist Melvin Gentry, bassist Kenneth Gant, t Bill Simmons, keyboard player/vocalist Bo Watson and t Jeff Cooper, as a self-contained group. They later added non-KSU student trombonist Vincent Calloway (Reginald's younger brother).

Operator" is a 1984 1 R&B/dance single by Midnight Star, produced by then-current bandmember Reggie Calloway. At the dawning of 1984, despite having achieved much success on the R&B chart and an extremely successful album, No Parking on the Dance Floor the previous year, Midnight Star had yet to make a big impression on the pop charts.

And for Midnight Star? This 1984 released fifth album only upped the musical ante on their instrumental funk futurism.

Complete your Midnight Star collection. NOTE: both sides on this release are at a slightly higher pitch (about a semi-tone higher) than the album versions. Rispondi Avvertimi Helpful. riferendosi a Operator, 12", Promo, ED 5018 anyways. I have a question about the speed/pitch of this recording!?!?! I noticed that the version on the 45 I have (Canadian pressing) is sped up (about a semi-tone) compared to the version on the album 'Planetary Invasion'. Amongst those tunes was a vicious cut by Midnight Star. With the possible exception of Newcleus' 'Jam On It', there is no other tune that I would associate more with funky 80's underground than 'Operator'. Originally released at the absolute peak of electrofunk in the 80s, this track contains every nostalgic idiosyncrosy you'd ever want: sparkling sci-fi synths, monster bass line, phat drum track, not to mention a marvellous vocoder and rap verse.
